World Mining Congress places the mining challenge on the agenda at the Future Minerals Forum in Saudi Arabia

Doris Hiam-Gálvez, Program Chair of WMC 2026, presented a vision aligned with the purpose of the Congress: moving from a mining model focused on extraction toward a long-term contribution.

Within the framework of the Future Minerals Forum (FMF), one of the world’s leading global gatherings on the future of the mining industry, Dr. Doris Hiam-Gálvez, PhD, FCAE, Program Chair of World Mining Congress 2026, took part in the Great Debate entitled “What happened to the nation builders?”, where she offered a profound reflection on the role of mining in national development.

During her remarks, Hiam-Gálvez stated that mining will ultimately be judged by the future it enables. In this regard, she emphasized that the shift required for mining to play a role in building nations lies in moving from short-term gains to long-term prosperity.

The Program Chair of WMC 2026 stressed that when mining evolves from mere extraction to a genuine contribution, without creating dependency, tangible positive impacts emerge: trust is built, investor confidence is strengthened, and nations thrive.

In this context, she noted that mining can and must be part of the solution for the future, acting as an enabler of development and allowing regions to continue to prosper long after mining activity has ended.

The participation of Doris Hiam-Gálvez at the Future Minerals Forum reinforces the challenge put forward by the World Mining Congress 2026, an event that will bring together authorities, leaders, and governments in Peru from June 24 to 26 to discuss the future of global mining.
