Prospector News Publisher, Michael Fox is joined by the Publisher of the National Investor, Chris Temple, to discuss the recent quarter point Fed Rate hike. We discuss the hike and the market reaction of being down and then back up again. Chris believes that the market doesn’t know how to price in the Fed’s intentions thinking that it is binary; either drop rates or raise rates. The reality is that rates may remain stable and quantitative tightening may continue even after 1 or 2 more quarter point hikes. We discuss the jobs numbers and how the strong number could embolden the Fed to continue their rate hike policy.
We also discuss the 2 potential giant black swans in the room. The Debt ceiling stalemate in the US and the effect a US default could have on Fed policy. And we discuss the geopolitics of energy. Is there a risk that Iran continues to try and block oil shipments to the US and the effects higher energy costs would have on inflation.
