Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy and Critical Minerals

Following yesterday’s announcement of Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy, new momentum is building around defence-critical minerals, secure supply chains, and allied industrial cooperation.

The strategy highlights plans to expand production, processing, stockpiling, and procurement of critical minerals while strengthening coordination with allies through initiatives such as the G7 Critical Minerals Production Alliance and NATO stockpiling efforts.

Energy and Mines is hosting a first-of-its-kind event – Critical Minerals for Defence, June 9-10, Toronto –  which will provide a unique platform for miners, defence experts, investors, and policymakers to discuss what these new demand signals mean for critical minerals project financing, processing capacity, procurement pathways, and secure supply chains.

Critical Minerals for Defence will provide essential insight into:

  • Defence demand signals reshaping critical minerals markets
  • Allied cooperation and investment pathways
  • Financing and mobilizing public-private capital
  • Defence OEM sourcing and supply chain resilience
  • Processing, refining, and advanced materials for defence
  • First Nations partnerships in defence-aligned projects

These discussions reflect a structural shift toward defence-driven demand influencing policy, capital, and procurement across the critical minerals sector.
