Iván Arriagada, The Chair of the ICMM, Will Be Part of The World Mining Congress 2026 In Peru

The Chair of the ICMM and CEO of Antofagasta PLC will share the vision of an industry that seeks to transform itself, collaborate, and deliver more value to the world in less time.

The World Mining Congress 2026 (WMC) continues to consolidate a high-level program with the presence of leaders who define the direction of global mining. Iván Arriagada, CEO of Antofagasta PLC and recently re-elected chairman of the board of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), has been confirmed as a plenary speaker at the Congress, which will be held in Lima from June 24 to 26.

Arriagada’s experience and leadership are particularly valuable in addressing the current challenge posed by the WMC to the global mining industry: how to supply the minerals the world needs for electrification, in less time and under increasingly demanding standards.

As Chair of ICMM, Ivan Arriaga brings a global perspective at the intersection of performance and responsibility. His participation will help explore how the industry can accelerate supply of minerals and build trust while creating lasting value for communities, regions, and the planet

During his previous term as head of the ICMM, between 2022 and 2024, key advances were made, such as the implementation of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management and the promotion of initiatives aimed at harmonizing practices and reporting across the industry. In this new phase, Arriagada has reaffirmed his commitment to furthering this work. “At Antofagasta, our purpose is to develop mining for a better future, and to that end, we believe it is important to contribute to the responsible development of our industry globally. Through leadership in the ICMM, we can contribute to this goal,” he said.

The World Mining Congress 2026 is aligned with the central objective of the event: ‘Mining for the Future: Trust, Transformation & Technology’. This conference brings together governments, companies, investors, and industry leaders to think differently, question traditional ways of doing things, and build a new balance between speed, scale, sustainability, and social relations. ICMM’s mission and the Congress themes are strongly aligned, advancing responsible mining through collaboration, high standards, and collective leadership.

The conference is expected to be a meeting point for ICMM member companies and those seeking to anticipate the changes that will shape the next decade. The electrification of the economy, the pressure to accelerate projects, and the need to reduce risks cannot be addressed in isolation.
