World Mining Congress offers visit to Machu Picchu and one of the world’s largest copper mines

The global event in Peru will integrate technical and cultural visits that connect the country’s historical richness with its leadership in the mining industry.

The World Mining Congress 2026 will not only bring together the world’s leading mining executives in Lima from June 24 to 26, but will also offer participants a unique experience that combines history, culture, and world-class mining operations: the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu, in Cusco, as well as one of the most important copper mines in the world, located in Arequipa.

As part of its official program, the Congress has designed a technical visit aimed at executives, investors, and industry professionals, with the goal of complementing the event’s strategic content with on-site experiences.

This field trip includes an expedition to Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, located at 2,430 meters above sea level in Cusco. Visitors will be able to appreciate the impressive 15th-century Inca citadel, renowned for its remarkable stone architecture and sacred temples.

The experience also includes a visit to the Cerro Verde mining operation in Arequipa, an open-pit mine recognized as one of the largest copper deposits in the world. Located 35 minutes southwest of the city of Arequipa, at an altitude of 2,700 meters above sea level, participants will gain firsthand insight into the infrastructure and operational standards of a large-scale mining operation.

Cultural itinerary: history and legacy of the Andes

The Cusco program offers an immersion into the history and identity of the Andean world, where pre-Hispanic and colonial heritages coexist. Participants will explore landmarks such as Qorikancha and the Convento de Santo Domingo, as well as the traditional neighborhood of San Blas and the Cusco Cathedral. The itinerary also includes visits to impressive archaeological sites surrounding the city, such as Sacsayhuamán, Puka Pukara, Tambomachay, and Qenqo.

In Arequipa, participants will discover the cultural richness of the so-called “Ciudad Blanca” touring its Historic Center, the iconic Plaza de Armas and the impressive Cathedral. The itinerary also includes a visit to the Monasterio de Santa Catalina, one of the most fascinating colonial architectural complexes in Latin America. As part of the experience, participants will also enjoy unique culinary experiences at renowned Peruvian restaurants.

Networking

This technical journey, taking place from June 27 to 30, represents a unique networking opportunity, where professionals from around the world can exchange perspectives while discovering more about Peruvian culture. The experience is currently in pre-sale with special rates available for a limited time on the official website: https://wmc2026.org/technical-visits/.

In this way, the World Mining Congress 2026, to be held from June 24 to 26 at the Lima Convention Center, will not only be a forum for discussion, but also a platform that allows participants to connect with the mining industry in the field.
