Today at a community members meeting, the Wet’suwet’en First Nation will celebrate the conclusion of a win/win community investment agreement with Huckleberry Mines.  Other issues regarding Huckleberry’s use of hydro lines and a forest road crossing Felix George Indian Reserve No. 7 have also been successfully resolved.

“Today is a good day for the Wetsuwet’en First Nation Community”, said Chief Karen Ogen.  “To its credit, Huckleberry stayed at the negotiating table and we were able to negotiate a fair and reasonable resolution that is already benefiting our community.

Five qualified Wet’suwet’en members now work at the mine in well-paying jobs and Wet’suwet’en’s economic development arm, Yinka Dene Economic Development Limited Partnership (YLP) has been invited to bid on contract work at the mine.

“These new jobs and business opportunities make a big difference to our small community, especially after the local lumber mill explosion and fire.” said  Reg Ogen, CEO of YLP, “I am hopeful that this is just the start of a strong long term working relationship with Huckleberry, one which will generate ongoing employment and business opportunities for Wet’suwet’en and long term business certainty for Huckleberry.
