Prospector News Publisher Michael Fox is joined by The Prospector News’ newest contributor Ted Butler as we discuss resource nationalism across the world. We begin the journey in Western Africa where coups in many of France’s former colonies is driving change and pushing out the former colonisor into the arms of the BRICS through the trade of gold for oil through countries such as United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. We discuss the overall view of the changes in Africa and what it will mean for world commodities trade. We ask the uncomfortable question; “Is Africa trading one coloniser for another?”
The discussion moves towards Mexico and South America, and we discuss how resource nationalism might look different in those countries with manufacturing investment that make come as the west reshores and outsources their manufacturing into closer jurisdictions. Auto makers such as Stellantis have already put major investments into Argentina to secure battery metals supplies.
