The Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) was pleased to welcome Prime Minister Stephen Harper to the PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange-the world’s leading mineral industry event.

Prime Minister Harper addressed a crowd of more than 600 delegates in a special presentation on the Government’s support for the mineral industry. The Prime Minister and incoming PDAC President, Rodney Thomas then discussed a variety of issues that demonstrated the significance and value of the mineral industry to Canada and Canadians. “This is an unprecedented event for the PDAC,” says Thomas. “We appreciate the Prime Minster’s support and the candor he demonstrated when discussing the challenges and opportunities facing our sector.”

“What is clear from our discussion with the Prime Minster is that this Government remains committed to supporting a progressive public policy and fiscal environment,” says Ross Gallinger, PDAC Executive Director. “We share the Prime Minister’s passion and intention to create economic and social opportunities for Canadians, regardless of how remote their community.”

PDAC also welcomed a record number of elected officials from across the country, including more than 50 Members of Parliament. “This level of political participation demonstrates the strength of PDAC’s influence in public policy,” adds Gallinger. “Interest from parliamentarians continues to grow because the mineral industry touches Canadians across the country and in ridings from coast to coast to coast.
