The Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AME BC) welcomed the signing of an Economic and Community Development agreement between four Ktunaxa Nation communities and the provincial government at the Gathering Place Aboriginal Pavilion during Mineral Exploration Roundup 2013.

This agreement will enable the Ktunaxa Nation, comprised of the four communities of St. Mary’s, Tobacco Plains, Lower Kootenay and Akisq’nuk First Nation to share revenues from new coal mine projects in the Elk Valley. The agreement also links to the Strategic Engagement Agreement between B.C. and Ktunaxa Nation, which provides for a decision-making and project-review process for new mine projects.

“The B.C. government continues to show leadership in the sharing of benefits from resource development with First Nations,” said Gavin C. Dirom, President & Chief Executive Officer of AME BC. “The signing of an economic and community development agreement between the B.C. government and four Ktunaxa Nation communities today creates more certainty for everyone and further strengthens B.C.’s reputation as a province that values mutually beneficial relationships between industry, government and local First Nations.”
