Stillwater Critical Minerals (TSX-V: PGE) (OTCQB: PGEZF) (FSE: J0G) is a mineral exploration company focused on its flagship Stillwater West Ni-PGE-Cu-Co + Au project in the iconic and famously productive Stillwater mining district in Montana, USA. With the addition of two renowned Bushveld and Platreef geologists to the team and strategic investments by Glencore, the Company is well positioned to advance the next phase of large-scale critical mineral supply from this world-class American district, building on past production of nickel, copper, and chromium, and the on-going production of platinum group, nickel, and other metals by neighboring Sibanye-Stillwater.
Stillwater West Ni-PGE-Cu-Co + Au (Montana)
OVERVIEW
Stillwater Critical Minerals is advancing the Stillwater West PGE-Ni-Cu-Co + Au project towards becoming a world-class source of low-carbon, sulphide-hosted nickel, copper, and cobalt, critical to the electrification movement, as well as key catalytic metals including platinum, palladium and rhodium used in catalytic converters, fuel cells, and the production of green hydrogen. The project consists of 14 multi-kilometer-scale exploration target areas along a 32 km strike length adjoining and adjacent to Sibanye-Stillwater’s high-grade Stillwater mines along the JM Reef in the Stillwater Igneous Complex of Montana, USA. Located in one of the top regions in the world for PGE-Ni-Cu mineralization, the Stillwater mines are the highest-grade major PGE project in the world and the largest outside South Africa and Russia. In June 2017, one month after South African producer Sibanye announced the completed takeover of Stillwater Mining company for USD 2.2 billion, Stillwater Critical Minerals announced the acquisition of Stillwater West project acquisition deal, which positioned the Company as the second largest landholder in the district. In addition to the land package, the Stillwater West acquisition included an extensive historic database of soil and rock geochemistry, geophysical surveys, geologic mapping, and historic drilling with nearly 12,000 metres of preserved core.
The J-M Reef, and other PGE-enriched sulphide horizons in the Stillwater Complex, share many similarities with the highly prolific Merensky and UG2 Reefs in the Bushveld Complex. SWCM’s work in the lower Stillwater Complex has demonstrated the presence of large-scale disseminated and high-sulphide battery metals and PGE mineralization, similar to the Platreef in the Bushveld Complex. Drill campaigns by the Company, complemented by a substantial historic drill database, have delineated five deposits of Platreef-style mineralization across a core 12-kilometer span of the project, all of which are open for expansion into adjacent targets. Multiple earlier-stage Platreef-style and reef-type targets are also being advanced across the remainder of the 32-kilometer length of the project based on strong correlations seen in soil and rock geochemistry, geophysical surveys, geologic mapping, and drilling.
Project Overview
The Drayton-Black Lake project consists of over 142 square kilometers in the Abrams‐Minnitaki Lake Archean greenstone belt, along the northern margin of the Wabigoon sub-province in Ontario, Canada. This emerging gold belt has already produced over one million ounces gold1 and currently hosts 6.6 million ounces of gold in Reserves and Measured and Indicated resources in total among New Gold’s Rainy River Mine, NexGold’s Goliath Gold Complex, and First Mining’s Cameron gold project2. Drayton-Black Lake has significant exploration potential with demonstrated high-grade gold in drill results and bulk samples across more than 30 kilometers of underexplored strike in a geologic setting that is shared with NexGold’s development-stage Goliath Gold Complex project. Access and infrastructure are excellent on the project, which features direct road access and proximity to rail and power. The project features well-defined, near-term drill targets over four zones, based on over 100 years of exploration data from 176 diamond drill holes totaling approximately 20km that had never been compiled until 2022.
Kluane Project Overview
Stillwater Critical Minerals’ 260 square kilometre Kluane Project consists of the Spy, Ultra and Catalyst properties, all of which occur within the Kluane Mafic-Ultramafic Belt; a system of PGE-Ni-Cu deposits which are part of a sequence of mafic-ultramafic rocks that extends through the Yukon from northern British Columbia to central Alaska. The Kluane project properties are each within 15km of the Alaska Highway and situated on trend with, and south of, the Nickel Shaw (formerly Wellgreen) deposit, one of the largest undeveloped PGE-Ni-Cu projects in North America at 6 Moz of Pt+Pd+Au and 3 Blbs of Ni+Cu in M&I resources and an additional 2 Moz of Pt+Pd+Au and 1 Blbs of Ni+Cu in Inferred resources1.
Yankee-Dundee Project (British Columbia)
Project Overview
The Yankee-Dundee project incorporates over 74 square kilometers of mineral claims in prolific and historic Southeast BC, a region that has produced over 5.6 million ounces of gold and over $70 billion in mineral wealth to date starting with placer mining in the 1850s and moving to lode mining in the 1880s.
Stillwater Critical Minerals (operating as Duncastle Gold Corp.) sold the Yankee-Dundee project to Armex Mining in early 2013 as announced in news releases on January 21 and June 25, 2013. Under the terms of the sale agreeement, Stillwater CM may receive $4-million or more by way of cash and royalty payments, depending on mine performance, commodity markets and other factors, including advance royalty payments.
The project comprises most of the historic Ymir Camp which was in the 1930s the largest silver producer in the British Commonwealth. The claims also include the largest mine in the camp, the Yankee Girl Mine. Despite the comparatively primitive methods of the day, the Yankee Girl was significant with 375,000 tonnes mined from over 14 levels between 1907 and 1951, yielding over $180 million in gross value at today’s prices. In addition to the Yankee Girl, the project includes over a dozen other past producing mines and countless mineralized showings. Despite its successful history, Southeast BC was underexplored for a number of years, held back in terms of mineral exploration by a combination of fractured land holdings, markets, politics, and commodity prices. The past few years have seen a turning point and a number of companies are now active in the area. Commodity prices, in particular gold, have brought a return of interest to the high-grade, high profit margin mines of the Kootenays.
Stillwater Critical Minerals was a relatively early entrant, as its founders commenced staking and acquisition in 2003 before acquiring the Yankee-Dundee crown grants in 2006. In keeping with its vision of building land positions covering and surrounding significant past producers, Stillwater CM assembled the more than 74 square kilometer claims package to examine the potential for larger mineralized systems as well as extensions of known systems through application of modern exploration methods in the first systematic programs conducted on the property.
Duke Island Copper-Nickel-PGE Project
The 100% owned Duke Island Copper-Nickel-PGE Project consists of 31 claims located in the Alexander Platinum Belt of SE Alaska, 50 miles south of the city of Ketchikan.
