CPM Initiates Niobium Research And Consulting Practice

CPM Group is pleased to announce that it has initiated regular research reports and on-going advisory services focused on niobium as part of our new Niobium Research And Consulting Practice. This follows the launch of our Tantalum Practice in 2021 and interest expressed by our clients in obtaining similar research and analysis for niobium.

Niobium, as ferroniobium, has been a key alloy used in the production of certain specialised steels for decades. The specialty steel market accounts for about 90% of niobium consumption. In addition to steel niobium has a wide range of applications in markets such as superconductors, superalloys, electronics, and lithium-ion batteries. While still quite small in terms of tonnage, some of these applications have strong prospects for future growth in demand. Such growth could, however, be hampered by the availability of niobium.

The CPM Niobium Research And Consulting Practice will initially include twice yearly reports containing:

  • Executive summary
    • News review. A critical look at key announcements and developments during the last few months (starting in the 2nd edition).
    • Non-steel supply. Supply of niobium raw materials by country/company, including projects.
    • Non-steel demand. Analysis of niobium demand by market segment and 10-year forecasts.
    • Ferroniobium market. Analysis of ferroniobium supply, demand, trade flows and prices, with 10-year forecasts.
    • Niobium concentrate prices. Trends in prices for niobium concentrates, with 10-year forecasts.
    • International trade. Analysis of trade flows in tantalum concentrates and products, excluding ferroniobium.
    • Company profiles. Profiles of key niobium producers and projects (full profiles updated annually)
    • Databook. Excel spreadsheet containing the data sets behind report charts.
    • Trade database. Excel spreadsheet containing the latest trade flows for niobium concentrates.

As secondary niobium markets grow and develop, we will increase coverage frequency to quarterly.

Our first Niobium Market Review and Outlook has been published today, with the second edition due in the first quarter of 2024.

In addition to the regularly scheduled reports CPM’s analysts and advisors will be available to advise and consult on niobium market trends, conditions, and developments. We will provide special reports and advisory services tailored to individual client’s needs and focus.

CPM’s niobium work may be aggregated with the research and consulting services we undertake on tantalum, gold, silver, PGMs, manganese, molybdenum, base metals, and other specialty metals.
